Bernard G. Hoffman field notes, 1945-1950.

The Bernard G. Hoffman papers include a folder of "The University of Montana Eclipse Party" near Saco, Mont, in 1945. The report includes a handwritten description of the preparations, the participants, specific data about the eclipse including the "falling shadow" phenomenon, drawings, maps, photographs, and reports from other observers. The "Archeology of the Canyon Ferry Dam Site field trip in Montana" in 1950 includes a handwritten daily journal of the fieldwork from 12 June to 31 July 1950, with photos, drawings of the items found, and hand drawn maps. Also included are newsclippings, maps and larger hand-drawings of petroglyph wall in Hellgate Canyon located on the northern edge of the 1950 Canyon Ferry region in Broadwater County, Mont. The dam was constructed between 1949 and 1954 and the area filled with water after those dates.
